What can I give my dog for allergies at home?

Wipe pollen off paws and belly after walks, wash bedding, keep flea prevention current and take photos of the skin. Save shampoos, sprays, ear cleaners and medication until your vet picks them.

Can I give my dog Benadryl for allergies?

Only with your vet's okay on the exact product and dose. Some combo products and liquids contain decongestants or xylitol, which are dangerous for dogs, and antihistamines alone rarely control a real flare.

Do dog allergies go away?

Usually not. Most allergic dogs are managed rather than cured, and a seasonal itch can widen into a year-round one over time. The good news is that managed well, they're comfortable.

What are the most common fall allergens for dogs?

Ragweed pollen, mold from wet leaves, and indoor dust and dust mites once the windows close and the heat comes on. Dogs pick them up on their paws, belly and chin rather than breathing them in.
